How Many Ice Cream Tubs Do You Need for Your Event?

One of the most common questions we get is: “How many tubs of ice cream do I need for my party?”

The answer depends on two things:

  1. How many people you’re serving

  2. Which flavors (and tub sizes) you choose

Because not every flavor comes in every size, here’s the easiest way to plan your order.


Our Serving Rule

We keep it simple:

  • 1 scoop = 4 oz

  • Plan for 1.5 scoops per person

That’s about 6 oz per guest


Servings Per Tub (By Size)

Using that 6 oz serving:

  • 3 gallon tub → ~85 scoops → ~57 servings

  • 2.5 gallon tub → ~70 scoops → ~47 servings

  • 1.5 gallon tub → ~45 scoops → ~30 servings


If You’re Ordering a Specific Flavor (By Tub Size)

Since flavors come in different sizes, here’s how to think about it:

If your flavor is in 3 gallon tubs:

  • 50 people → 1 tub

  • 100 people → 2 tubs

  • 150 people → 3 tubs

If your flavor is in 2.5 gallon tubs:

  • 40–50 people → 1 tub

  • 90–100 people → 2 tubs

  • 140–150 people → 3 tubs

If your flavor is in 1.5 gallon tubs:

  • 25–30 people → 1 tub

  • 50–60 people → 2 tubs

  • 75–90 people → 3 tubs

Pro Tip: Always Round Up

Scoops aren’t perfect, and guests love seconds.

We recommend ordering about 10-20% extra to be safe, especially for:

  • Hot weather events

  • Kids parties

  • Large gatherings


Quick Example

Hosting 75 people and want one specific flavor that only comes in 2.5 gallon tubs?

  • Each tub serves ~47 people

  • 75 guests ÷ 47 ≈ 1.6 tubs
